Smokejumpers, sizzle and suspense…oh my!

Smokejumpers, firefighters who parachute into remote locations to battle wildfires, have one of the most dangerous jobs you can do. I’ve long been fascinated by these heroes of wilderness firefighting, and writing a book about a smokejumper was inevitable for me. I relished the idea! But hurtling out of an airplane at 90 miles an hour, parachuting into areas where tall trees and rocks pose deadly landing hazards, and working endless hours felling trees with chain saws to stop raging infernos wasn’t enough danger for my characters…oh no! I had to add the unexpected threat of terrorists, a sniper, and a loss of communication off a mountain top to the mix. Now we’re talking danger!
UNDER FIRE , a romantic suspense releasing this week in print format from Samhain, is the product of many months of research, a full year of writing, and plenty of personal investment in the characters. Writing this book was a challenge and a blessing. The more I poured into the process, the more I loved the story I was creating.
I’m thrilled to say the early response from reviewers has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, UNDER FIRE was a finalist in the CAPA Reviewers Choice awards at The Romance Studio, and I learned this weekend that UNDER FIRE is a finalist in the New England RWA Bean Pot Readers Choice contest!
The Romance Studio gave UNDER FIRE five stars and said, “Beth Cornelison has written an excellent tale of suspense…. Many authors can do a great suspense story but not all of them do the kind of job this author does in weaving the terrorists with heroic smokejumpers and the budding love story between Jackson and Lauren.… Beth Cornelison does a great job of keeping each segment of the tale running smoothly in parallel then brings it all together for a powerful ending.”

And Joyfully Reviewed gave UNDER FIRE their coveted “Joyfully recommended” status, saying, Under Fire opens up emotionally charged, and the tension and suspense continues through to the last page. Along the journey, secrets are revealed and new conflicts arise. This is a fantastic novel and Beth Cornelison is a fantastic suspense writer. Her characters were so well-written that they all felt like major characters, no matter how small their presence in the book was. None of her characters were one-dimensional.”
But don’t take these reviewers word for it! If you’re looking for nail-biting action and adventure, sizzling romance, and a hot read, why not try UNDER FIRE for yourself!?

Jane- smokejumpers are awesome. There physical training is said to be tougher than most military programs. Danger is inherent to the job so…great character material! I had a blast writing and researching my smokejumpers!
