This week marks a special time in my long writing career. I say long because I began to study the craft over twenty years ago. Sales have only been happening for the last few years. My first manuscript, ever, was completed in the Spring of 1986.When someone writes for a very long time before they sell, they learn to adust their expectations for success. The large dreams they started out with, like hanging out on The Tonight Show, drop a few notches.
While some expectations drop away, other more attainable goals appear. Recently, I’ve achieved a career step for which I’ve worked hard. It’s not The Tonight Show, but it’s a career move I’m thoroughly enjoying. I’m officially writing for two publishers on lines that I love. The first is Kensington Aphrodisia (my next, BREATHLESS, will be out sometime in late 2009) and now Harlequin Blaze. POSSESSING MORGAN will be released in mid 2009.
So, when an event occurs that you’ve dreamed of for more than twenty years finally happens, you feel like dancing. Dancing in the kitchen, in the street, while driving. You get the idea.
I’m dancing this week, because on May 30, I sent in my first contracted story to Harlequin Blaze. It is complete! Four drafts and over 30 editing runs through POSSESSING MORGAN is on my editor’s desk. Can you say: Let’s dance?
To celebrate this milestone, I’m pleased to offer any one of my Kensington Aphrodisia releases to a reader who comments this week.
Please share the dream achievement that would make you feel like dancing. I hate to dance alone…
