Who Knew Pittsburgh Could Be So Romantic?

Okay, so it’s Thursday evening and the Romantic Times BOOKLovers Convention is well underway here in Pittsburgh.  Everywhere you turn, you’ll see romance readers, booksellers and authors - not to mention a few hunky male cover models.

For those of you who have never been, an RT convention is quite an experience.  Sure, you can find writing workshops for the aspiring author, but RT is unique in that it brings the authors together with the booksellers and the readers.  Readers have lots of workshops they can attend, as well as special events, such as Christine Feehan’s Midnight Speakeasy or the Fairy Ball, a dinner dance and costume competition.  And did I mention the male cover models?  Or the chocolate fountains at the Ellora’s Cave Fantasy Party?

Hmm.

With all of those fun activities here at the convention, why am I up in my room on my computer?  Good question - I think it’s time to head down to Party Central for some more madcap merriment.

But before I go, here’s a question for you all:  Have you ever attended an RT convention?  How about a fan convention of any kind that involved the wearing of costumes?  Share your stories, and don’t forget:  Someone will be winning another book this week.

  1. I feel like such a dullard! I’ve never attended an author/reader/fan
gathering of any kind!! I do participate in seven or eight blog sites
daily, interacting with others of like mind. Does this count?

  2. We can’t all do the physical traveling, Pat. One of the things I like about books is that I can go so many places, even if I can’t afford to get on a plane or train. So, yes, I would say blogs should count in this day and age. I love ‘talking’ books with other readers at different blogs.

So, no dullard talk here, please! :)

  3. Hi, Pat,

Tessa is so right - connecting online through blogs most definitely counts!

    Thanks for posting!

Faye, who’s off to do another wild and crazy day at RT!

  4. I have not been to any conferences. I have always wanted to go.

  5. Hi, Crystal,

The conferences can be a lot of fun. Tonight, they are having a Monster Mash costume ball - Tomorrow is the huge booksigning and the Mr. Romance Cover Model competition. I think I’ll need to sleep for a week to recover from all the fun. LOL.

  6. I’ve been to the RT Convention once when it was in Daytona Beach two years ago and had so much fun I couldn’t believe it could possibly be a tax write-off. The dancing! The costumes! The people! It was AMAZING. I’m hoping I can go back next year.

    Let’s see . . . stories . . . Hmmmm. I think that what happens at RT, stays at RT. :-)

It’s really a unique event. I hope you had a blast, Faye.

  7. Hi, Eileen,

Yanno, I think you may be on to something with that “what happens at RT stays at RT” mantra of yours. lol.

The convention is almost over - we had the 2008 Mr. Romance competition and it was a blast. I can’t wait till next year in Orlando!
